Alberta veterinarians vote to ban ‘inhumane’ procedures
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Alberta veterinarians have voted to ban unnecessary medical procedures across the province.
The decision was announced Sunday, when members of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) voted in favor of a resolution they feel will have a significant impact on animals in Alberta.
The ban on all unnecessary surgeries includes:
- Body piercing
- Cosmetic dentistry
- Devocalization
- Ear cropping
- Front dewclaw removal
- Partial digital amputation
- Tail Blocking
- Tail Docking
- Tail Nicking
- Tattooing that is not used for registration or identification
- Tendonectomy
