Taber Corn Season Coming to a Close

Sep 7, 2016 | 2:58 PM

TABER – You may want to make a point of stocking up on Taber corn, as the season is almost done for at least one grower.

David Jensen, owner of Jensen’s Taber Corn, explained that their stands will be open Thursday and Friday.

He added that while the quality stayed high all season, their yields were down this year.

“We had a little frost on it at the beginning of the year, when we seeded it, it came up and got a touch of frost on it, which I’m sure effected it a little bit,” Jensen stated. “And just the growing season, we’ve had some cool days in July, a lot of rain, corn likes a lot of heat.”

When asked if he was disappointed in the early finish, Jensen was quick to note that it was still a good year.

“All year the quality has been excellent, it’s just the yield is not as high as I’d liked to have seen it, but you know it’s part of the game, one year you get a better yield and the next year you don’t.”

Jensen also took a moment to recognize those who keep him busy throughout the summer.

“We’re so appreciative of all our customers that buy from us every year and support us, and I want to thank them very much and hope that they enjoyed eating our corn.”
