Prelim Waived in Second Degree Murder Case
LETHBRIDGE – A three day preliminary hearing that was supposed to begin Wednesday morning (Sept. 7) in a case of second degree murder has been waived by the Crown and defence.
Randall William Enright was charged last September, in connection with the death of 29-year old Matthew James Flitton.
Defence lawyer, Greg White, explained that after reviewing all of the disclosure in the case, they agreed that there was no need to go ahead with the prelim, which is used to determine if there’s enough evidence to proceed to trial.
On September 19, 2015, Lethbridge Police did a welfare check at a home along the 500 block of 19 Street North, where they found Flitton’s body.
An investigation identified a 29-year-old man – who was an associate of the victim – as a suspect and he was arrested that night with help from the Tactical Team. It was also noted by police that Enright had been staying with Flitton a short time prior to the incident.
Enright will appear in Court of Queen’s Bench on October 24 for arraignment.
