LETHBRIDGE – University of Lethbridge freshman jumper Noel Vanderzee has been named to the Canadian team that will compete at the World U20 Championships that will compete in Tampere, Finland following a successful first season with the Pronghorn track and field team.

Pronghorn head coach Larry Steinke says this will be Vanderzee ‘s second international experience after competing at the Pan Am juniors last summer.

“He’s ready to make that step up to another level,” Steinke continued. “He’s had great composure all year and if he retains that going into the world championships he will definitely have a solid competition and surprise a few people.”

During his first year as a Pronghorn, Vanderzee burst on to the Canada West high jump scene, setting a personal best of 2.09 metres in the first meet of his career and followed that up with a silver medal at the Canada West Championships.

Vanderzee narrowly missed the podium finishing fourth at the U SPORTS Championship meet, while bettering his personal best by clearing 2.10 metres.

The 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships will take place from July 10 to July 15, with Vanderzee competing in the qualification round on July 12.

The finals for the men’s high jump will be held on July 14. More information on the Championships is available here.
