LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team head coach Spiros Anastas has tendered his resignation to pursue another coaching opportunity after four seasons.

Anastas was hired as the ninth head coach in the program’s history on April 3, 2014, and in his four seasons with the Pronghorns, Anastas compiled a record of 36-68-8.

Anastas led the program to 5, 11, 11 and 9-win seasons over the four years

“While we are disappointed to be losing Spiros, it is a great opportunity for him and his family,” Executive Director of Sport and Recreation Ken McInnes said.

With the Pronghorns set to host the Coupe University Cup for the first time in the program’s history this spring, the resignation comes at a challenging time for the men’s hockey program.

This was Anastas’ first head coaching position and prior to joining the Pronghorns, he was an assistant coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League.

Pronghorn Athletics stated in a release it will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
