LETHBRIDGE – Army Reserve soldiers from the 20th Independent Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery will be conducting Exercise SNOWBALL GUNNER in the Lethbridge area on Jan. 26 and 27.

The training will take place in the surrounding area of Lethbridge, and the exercise will allow Army Reserve soldiers to practice essential military skills in a field setting, preparing them for integrated training with the Regular Force.

A release states Exercise SNOWBALL GUNNER will consist of soldiers carrying rifles, both on foot and in vehicles, participating in training scenarios to practice their basic skills.

This training will include patrolling, moving by vehicles and convoy, and local security. All military participants will be dressed in Canadian Disruptive Pattern (CADPAT) uniforms during the exercise.

While most of the training will happen in areas outside of Lethbridge, there will be a period on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 27 when soldiers will be conducting training in North Lethbridge.

There will be no use of blank ammunition or pyrotechnics during training events in the city limits, and the Lethbridge Police Service has been contacted and is aware of this training.

Signs will be posted advising the community that military training will be happening in these areas in the city.

Canadian Armed Forces personnel will not pose a significant disturbance to the community and participants will at no time trespass on private property.
