Feb 8, 2019 | 10:35 AM

TABER, AB – Horizon School Division No. 67 confirmed it received bomb threats Friday (Feb 8) morning.

The school division released a letter to parents stating that threats were aimed at L.T. Westlake Elementary School and the D.A. Ferguson/W.R Myers school complex. The threats came in via an anonymous voice message that morning.

The police were immediately contacted and responded to the incident. The school division said that due to the size of the school complex, and the fact that it is under construction, D.A. Ferguson, W.R Myers and Taber Mennonite School students who were at W.R Myers were evacuated.

The letter noted that police determined there was no need to evacuate L.T. Westlake.

Taber police determined there was no threat at the schools and students were able to return to classes by mid-morning.

“Counsellors and other staff continue to be available at the schools to attend to any matters the students or family members may have as a result of the incident,” read the letter.

The school division said that the safety of students is its number one priority.

A copy of the letter can be viewed through Horizon School Division No. 67’s website.

Mid afternoon on Friday, media learned there was also a bomb threat at a local business, which Taber residents identified as the local Walmart, which had received a similar threat within the 24-hours previous.

Police continue to investigate the threats to determine their origin. In a release, they indicated no other information would be released at this time.
