Margaret Jolane (née Szabo) Berringer
Marg was born on February 20, 1936 in Stirling, Alberta and passed away on October 7, 2024 at the age of 88 years. She lived in Stirling with family until December 1943, at which time they moved to Milk River. She took some of her schooling in Milk River and then left to pursue a short career in telephone switchboard operating in the years of 1953-54.
On July 9, 1954, she married Ed Berringer and lived in the Milk River area. Together, in 1956, they moved out to the 1-17 district, where Ed pursued a career as an oil well site battery operator until 1969. On January 1, 1967, the family moved back into Milk River, where she worked as a cook at the Robert’s Hotel restaurant. On December 7, 1969, she started to work in the dietary department at Border Counties Hospital until her retirement 25 years later.
During her years in Milk River, she enjoyed sporting activities such as Women’s Slow Pitch, bowling, and hobbies like cross-stitch, crocheting, reading, puzzling, and word search. She was an active member for 28 years with the CWL and served a number of years on the Prairie Rose Auxiliary Board.
For the most part, she stayed close to home in southern Alberta but did take a few vacations to the southern states, Hungary, and northern British Columbia.
Margaret is survived by her three children: son Alan (Marlene) and granddaughter Kara; son Lee (Connie) and grandchildren: Clint (Jenessa) (Emerson and Dawson), Julie (Brennan) Meek (Maizey, Hadlee, and Lyla), and Kyle (Amie) (Rylan and Everlee); son Hal (Rhonda) and grandchildren: Danielle (Ken) and Grant (Kaylee). She is also survived by sister-in-law Eva Szabo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband Ed; parents Steve and Helen (Pocza) Szabo; brother Steve (Audrey) Szabo; sister Helen (Steve) Balog; and brother Archie Szabo.
A Celebration of Life will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 301 Main Street NW, Milk River, AB on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. with Terry Michaelis officiating.
