MIECZYSLAW “MIETEK” BYLICKI, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Lidia Bylicki, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at the St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Friday, June 9th, 2017 at the age of 67 years.
Besides his wife of 44 years, Lidia, Mietek is survived by his daughters Monika (Andrzej) Wityk and their son Pawel and Diana (Kevin) Span and their daughter Dani. He was also survived by two sisters Wiesia and Bozena and one brother Edek.
Mietek was predeceased by his parents Salomea and Edmund as well as by his older brother Tadek.
Mietek was born and raised in Poland and emigrated to Canada with his wife and two daughters in 1990 and eventually settled in Lethbridge. He started working with AV Brake and Suspension as a welder shortly there after and continued there until his illness forced him to retire.
Mietek loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going on many camping and fishing trips with them teaching all about making custom fishing lures and even life lessons. In his early years, Mietek played a great deal of soccer and table tennis, traits that he passed along to his children and grandchildren.
He also cherished the time he was able to spend with his family in Mexico, soaking up both the invaluable time with his wife, children and grandchildren and also the sun while he played countless hours of beach volleyball, sometimes almost too competitively.
When April came, Lidia and Mietek would pack their motorhome and leave for West Castle. This is where they would spend all of their time until September came, sometimes October, depending on the weather. While there, Mietek had a passion for mushroom picking, he would know all of the best and secret spots to find the rarest and most tasteful mushrooms. Also, while they were at West Castle there wasn’t a day that would go by that Mietek wouldn’t be fishing, he will be forever remembered as a first class fisherman.
Mietek had a resounding amount of courage and willpower when faced with his battle of cancer. He fought for over a long 8 years, right up to the day prior to his passing. He had a zest for life and never wanted to let go. He will be dearly and sorrowly missed by all those who knew and loved the time they spent with him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Smuts and her team at Palliative Care, Carrie-Lynn and the home care team and all of the staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit for their support offered to Mietek and the family during this trying time.
In keeping with Mietek’s wishes, a Private Family Celebration of Life will be held. May you remember him always at his best, healthy, happy and forever in your hearts.
In memory of Mietek and referencing some of his last words of wisdom:
“Treasure each other,
be happy and
live life to the fullest”
