AUDREY IONE CARTWRIGHT (née Harris), passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre, on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the age of 89.
Mom always said she was born “on the 10th of the July” 1932 in Champion Alberta to Walt and Ione Harris. She married Fred Cartwright on April 14, 1951 and together they raised three children. In her thirties, she took on the challenge of finishing her high school diploma and enrolled in the faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta. She graduated with a diploma in Occupational Therapy in 1972 and went to work at the University of Alberta Hospital. After the family moved to Lethbridge in 1974, Audrey worked for the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Adult Day Program at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.
In 1976, she was the creator and Coordinator of the Family Studies Program at the Lethbridge Community College. For over 10 years, she worked on programming centered around parenting, family and community, coordinating courses and seminars with basically any group that approached her with a desire for knowledge and skills development for families.
After retirement, she kept up with friends and family; phone calls, cards, letters and brunches, travel and crafting, if there was a need, she was there – often with a pot of hamburger soup!
Audrey was predeceased by her parents Walter and Ione Harris and her husband Fred Cartwright. She is survived by her three children, Deb, Walter and Tami Cartwright, one grandchild Em Cartwright and her brother Keith (Carol) Harris.
The family wants to thank the staff at St. Mike’s, who for over seven years kept her happy, clean, comfortable and above all safe – particularly over the last two years. We will be forever grateful for the care they took to protect her.
A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
