It is with deep sadness that the family of Rowanda “Penny” Dudley announce her peaceful passing in Lethbridge, AB., on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the age of 78 years.
Penny was born May 16, 1945, in Cardston, AB., to Mervan and Marjorie Nelson. At the tender age of 14, she met the love of her life, Clifford Dudley, and married just a few short months later. Penny and Cliff enjoyed 39 beautiful years together, raising their children in Hardieville, before purchasing their first farm in Diamond City, AB., and finally settling on a large acreage near Shaughnessy, AB. There, they raised horses and enjoyed many happy years going on trail rides, camping with their horses, and having their grandchildren come to swim, ride horses, and hike the coulees of their property.
She enjoyed painting classes, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Southland Nursing Home and later, Green’s Pop Shop for many years, and sang in a band in her youth.
Penny had a great love for animals and was never found without a beloved dog by her side. She was always the one most excited about ‘baby touchdowns!’ during their horses’ foaling seasons. She loved the barnyard cats, the farm dogs, and all creatures great and small.
She was an exceptional cook and baker; always had fresh bread, candies, ice cream, and an assortment of cookies waiting for her grandchildren when they came to visit. Penny took pride in homemaking and sewing, and being a wife, mother, and grandmother was the greatest joy of her life.
Penny was predeceased by her parents Marjorie and Mervan, sister Joanne, and brothers Marvin and Johnny, and by her soulmate Clifford in 1999. She was steadfast in her heart that Cliff was ‘the true great love of her life’ and she always talked fondly about the day in which she would be reunited with him in Heaven. We are blessed to know they are together again, now.
She is survived by her children: Clifford Jr, Ida (Ray) Sharp, and Lisa (Brad) Martin, and six grandchildren: Chance Chenger (Michelle, children Brooklyn, Nadia, Austin, Anthony, and Jaxon), Candace Blain (Nick, children Devon, Dreydon, and Emaliyah), Ayla Martin, Tamara Martin, Riley Dudley, and Darren Dudley. She is also survived by her sister Lorriena Rook, and her best friend, Karen Langille.
The family wish to thank the amazing and compassionate staff at Good Samaritan’s Park Meadows, for the endless care and love they showed Penny. Nana always had a story to share, a joke to tell, and spoke so fondly of ‘all my girls’ on staff who cared for her and spent time with her while she resided there. Additional thanks to Cornerstone Funeral Home’s exceptional organization and compassionate staff who accommodated our family’s needs and wishes with only a moment’s notice.
Penny will be sorely missed by her family and friends, but they are deeply comforted by the knowledge that she is reunited with her love Cliff, and taking many heavenly trail rides together.
At Penny’s request, no Funeral Service will be held.
