October 19, 1935 – March 31, 2022
David John Erickson passed away March 31, 2022 in Lethbridge at the age of 86 years.
David was born October 19, 1935 in Lethbridge, Alberta, son of Allan and Emma Erickson. David was the only son in the family with six sisters – Betty, Donna, Ruth, Gail, Lorna, and Cheryl. He grew up on the family farm in Wrentham. He did all his schooling in the Wrentham schools. In his youth he enjoyed playing basketball.
After David finished his schooling, he served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Australia. Upon his return to Canada he began his career as a farmer with his parents on the family farm. On July 2, 1959 he married Janyce Stevenson from Raymond. They would raise 3 children: Darcy, Maxine, and Debra. During his time in Wrentham, he served in various callings in the Wrentham Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as well as the Wrentham Lions Club.
His farming career included grain, cattle, hogs, potato farming and corn silage. He was one of the first farmers in the area to install an irrigation pivot on his farm. He was especially proud of his purebred Black Angus cattle and would regularly attend the Lethbridge Bull Sale where he would show and sell his cattle. He would also take cattle to Dillon, Montana and sell them there.
In 1980 his marriage with Janyce ended, the farm was sold, and David moved to Dell, Montana. He lived there about 2 years and then returned to Alberta and settled in Stirling. While in Stirling David worked at a few different jobs including chicken farming, bee keeping, underground sprinkler systems, and security with the Commissionaires.
David was predeceased by his parents, and four sisters – Betty, Donna, Ruth, and Cheryl.
David is survived by his three children, Darcy (Bonnie) Erickson, Maxine (Jerry) West, and Debra (Wes) Chamberlain, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Gail and Lorna.
David will be interred in the Stirling Cemetery where his parents are buried. A private family service will be held.
Those friends who wish to remember David may do so by donating to the Canadian Mental Health Association or to a favourite charity of their choice.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Park Meadows Good Samaritans for their care of David while he resided there.
