CATHERINE ANN “CATHY” FORBES, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Cathy was born on February 19, 1952, in Vulcan, Alberta. In 1953, her family moved to Lethbridge, which would remain her lifelong home and the place where she built a life centered on family, kindness, and care for others. In 1969, Cathy married Ken, and together they began their family in 1970 — a journey that became the heart of her life and her greatest pride.
A devoted homemaker, Cathy dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her boys and creating a home filled with warmth and stability. She loved camping and spending time outdoors with her family, creating lasting memories around campfires and shared adventures. Cathy was also actively involved as a Cub camp cook (affectionately known as “Chilli”), generously giving her time and energy to support her boys and their activities. For a short time, she worked in healthcare and later as a pharmacy technician, roles that reflected her compassionate nature and willingness to serve others.
Athletic by nature, Cathy valued movement and healthy living throughout her life. She was an avid clogger and found great joy in the rhythm, energy, and camaraderie it brought. She also deeply cherished her friendships, valuing the connections, laughter and support they brought to her life. This love of activity was proudly passed on to her family. Nothing meant more to Cathy than supporting her grandchildren; she spent countless hours courtside, in the rink, in the theatre, and on the field — always present, always encouraging, and always proud as they worked hard and excelled.
After her husband Ken retired in 2003, they embraced the joy of travel. They travelled across Canada in 2004 with Diana and John, creating cherished memories along the way. In 2017, they travelled to Mexico to celebrate Mackenzie’s wedding, a deeply meaningful trip that brought her immense happiness. Cathy also greatly cherished her many trips to Kalispell. She had the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom on two occasions. In 1987, she journeyed with family to Appledore, England, to lay her grandfather’s ashes to rest. She returned in 1999 with her brothers and sisters to honour their uncle by returning his ashes, touring England and Scotland together and creating lasting family memories.
When parents were working early shifts, Cathy was the steady morning caregiver for her grandchildren — helping them get ready for school and seeing them safely on their way.
She was filled with excitement and pride as she entered great-grandparenthood, delighting in the newest generations of her family.
Cathy is lovingly remembered by her husband Ken and three sons, Ken Jr. (Corrie) Forbes, Dan Forbes (Nancy Voort), and Tim Forbes (Tabitha Rommel); her grandchildren Mackenzie (Dakota) Forbes-Postman, Jensen (Trent) Mathieu, Tannis (David) Vandebeek, Ysabella Innes-Forbes, Tavish Innes-Forbes, and Kobe Forbes; and her four adored great-grandchildren, Lucas, Everleigh, Frankie, and Gracie. She is also survived by her siblings Diana (John) Lowther, Susan Zook, David (Sharon) Crabb, and Donald Crabb (Christine Kerber); and her siblings-in-law Alexander Forbes (LoriJean Schlenker), Bruce (Marg) Forbes, and Donald (Denise) Forbes.
Cathy will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and the steady, loving presence she was to everyone who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply. She will be profoundly missed and forever held close in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
In her own words: “Family is most important to me, always!”
In keeping with Cathy’s wishes, a private Family Service will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 1:30 P.M. The Service will be livestreamed, and may be viewed on our website under Cathy’s obituary.
