It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, grandma, niece, daughter, cousin, and friend, Stephanie Marie Fox (soon to be Powell). Stephanie was born on January 18, 1968 in Cardston, AB. She was the beloved first born of her late mother, Bernadette. Stephanie was loved and raised by many special people, including aunts that she took as mothers, and especially by her late grandmother, Emma. She was loved and raised by her dad, Q.E., and welcomed into a beautiful family where she had many siblings. She had an extra special bond with her cousin, Terry, who she took as her brother, plus many family and friends who she held close to her.
Stephanie was one of the older grandchildren within her Fox and Tailfeathers families and held very close bonds with everyone. Stephanie was blessed with a very large, loving family as well as a second family, which were her friends from near and far, and her in-laws—Bill’s family—in Browning, MT.
Stephanie was raised and attended school on the Blood Reserve and in Cardston. She graduated Grade 12 from St. Mary’s High School. As a child, she was always surrounded with family and enjoyed family functions such as birthdays, large family dinners, BBQ’s, and camping trips. As a teenager, she was an active Girl Guide and did a lot of camping and other activities. A memorable trip she made was to Niagara Falls with her Girl Guide troop. She later attended Lethbridge Community College and graduated with her Diploma in Information Technology.
Stephanie had extensive experience in all that she did in work and in life. Personally, she was blessed with many gifts that she shared with others. The gift of cooking delicious meals for family (she is known as the Gravy Queen, because she made the best gravy from scratch). She also knew how to sew and bead. She made dresses for Shawnee and moccasins for Emma. Another talent not everyone knew about was that she was an awesome hand game player. She had opportunity to share all of these gifts with others. Professionally, she spent portions of her younger career working seasonal jobs in Banff and Waterton Lakes National Park. After completing her schooling, she enjoyed a ten-year career working with staff and students at Red Crow Community College as a Registrar for Student Services.
Stephanie’s travel took her many places near and far. A memorable trip she shared with her late mother, sister Nedra, cousin Tim and relative Genevieve Solway, was a pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Toronto, ON in 2002. This trip proved to be a spiritually transformational experience for her and her family. She often made the annual Pilgrimage to Lac Ste. Anne with her family and grandparents. She enjoyed many road trips with Shawnee to many places throughout Canada and the United States.
Stephanie always had a big smile and a warm hug for everyone and often put the needs of others before her own. This was especially true when she had her beautiful daughter, Shawnee Brooke Marie, and most recently when she had her first grandson, Phoenix Hazen James. Stephanie was overfilled with joy and love when she found out she was going to be a Grandma, and this—by far—was her most cherished blessing that she shared with everyone she knew. Although with her new grandson her time was cut short, the time she did spend with him and Shawnee were her best days.
As hard as Stephanie worked, she always made time for fun! No one knows this more than her crew of family and friends, who would be at her side celebrating in the mountains, getting into mischief or bailing one another out of trouble, and then laughing about those crazy experiences when all was said and done! These are memories that many of her friends and family hold very near and dear to their hearts!
Stephanie was excited to begin planning her marriage to Bill Powell Jr. They were recently engaged to be married, had purchased their rings and were waiting to find a date that worked for everyone. They made their home in Browning, MT and always made sure their door was open to anyone who needed a place to stay.
These are the greatest gifts Stephanie left with everyone: her kindness towards others, her gentle ways, and her humility in everything she did.
Stephanie was predeceased by her grandfather, Stephan Fox Sr., her grandmother, Emma Manyfeathers, her grandfather, George Manyfeathers, her mother, Bernadette Fox, her father, Gilbert (Q.E.) Tailfeathers, her grandfather, Harvey Tailfeathers and her grandmother, Nellie Tailfeathers.
Stephanie is survived by her spouse, Bill Powell Jr., her daughter, Shawnee Good Striker, her grandson, Phoenix Hazen James Good Striker, and her siblings, Garret (Nadine) Tailfeathers, Rhonda (Robert) Crow, Robyn (Joe) Oka, and Nedra Joy Fox. Stephanie loved her nieces and nephews, and she leaves behind: Marley, Tyler, Blaine, Nigel, Nathan, Julie, Logan, Emma, Mason, and Renae. She is also remembered by numerous godchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Her physical journey is complete but her spiritual journey has begun. She will be welcomed lovingly by all her family and friends who have gone before her. We love you Stephanie, you are now our Angel guided by Creator to watch over us…
The family apologizes for anyone they forgot to mention, as we know Stephanie touched the lives of many people.
