“Mothers are Angels in Training”
ANNA “ANNY” E.C. GEERS, beloved wife, mother and Oma passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the age of 88 years.
Anny is survived by her loving and caring husband, Adrian and her four children and their spouses, John (Shanny), Ed (Jennifer), Shirley Ann (Rolf) and Betty (Rick).
She adored her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Jay (Nicole & Grayson), Stuart (Christina, Rebecca & Sawyer), Blake, Lee, Robyn, Kristi and Nicole.
She is also survived by her extended de Wit and Geers families in Holland.
Anny was born in Oud-Vossemeer, Zeeland, Holland on June 26, 1930. She married Adrian on March 22, 1955 and three days later boarded the Ryndam to their new life in Canada. Their early years were on farms in Vauxhall, Lethbridge and Magrath before settling on their own farm in Vauxhall in 1963. Mom worked hard on the farm; milking cows, stacking bales, butchering chickens, maintaining a huge garden, sewing and baking delicious goods – oh, we loved Oma’s buns! In 1988, they retired into Lethbridge to start the next stage of their life. In her retirement, she added walking, yoga and knitting for the food bank and premature babies at the hospital.
Mom always put everyone else’s needs ahead of herself. She will be sadly missed by many whose lives she touched.
Mom was a devout Catholic and a long-standing member of the Catholic Women’s League.
A FUNERAL MASS will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant.
Anny will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Anny’s memory to the Covenant Foundation in support of St. Michael’s Palliative Care, 1400 – 9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5.
Anny’s family would like to thank all of Mom’s caregivers who watched over her and supported Dad throughout the years.
“God Saw You Getting Tired”
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you
And whispered
“Come to Me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you pass away
And although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay
A Golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best
