CLETUS GRUBB, of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, passed away in Calgary on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024. His final days were spent surrounded by family.
He is survived by his brother Lee Grubb and sisters: Ruth Tabbert, Loretta Fairey and Lavelda Krisko. Cletus will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Anna and Simon Grubb, brother Ervin Grubb and sisters Florence Reese and Eleanor Rud.
Cletus was born August 8th, 1933, where he grew up on the family farm. As a young boy, he was part of 4H and helped his sisters groom their steers for showing. He also played local softball, where he was known for his home runs and was the league batting champion in 1962.
Farming with his brother Ervin was a big part of his life; he spent many hours in the field and enjoyed unloading grain during harvest. They worked hard to expand the family farm south of Gull Lake (up on the bench), eventually renting the farm to the Carmichael Colony. After moving to Lethbridge in 2006, he continued to be very engaged in farm decisions up to his passing.
Although a large part of his time was farming, Cletus’ passion was working with cattle. There was nothing he enjoyed more than driving through the pasture at sunset with a cup of coffee checking the cattle. He always said they looked better at that time of day. He was a buyer at the Maple Creek auction and eventually worked with Balog Auction as a fieldman and buyer, resurrecting the Tompkins auction barn. Those were busy years travelling around the country organizing cattle for the next big sale. Even once he moved to Lethbridge, Cletus continued buying and selling cattle for a good number of years and working with Balog. Cletus was very respected in the cattle industry and was known for his honesty and integrity.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Jim Manzara officiating. The Memorial Service will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Cletus’ obituary on the Cornerstone website.
