H. GRANT HOLDEN, of Barons, beloved husband of Shelley Holden, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Friday, September 15th, 2017 at the age of 75 years.
Besides his wife, he is lovingly remembered by his children, Donna Lee Holden (John Olsen), Chris (Sandy) Holden, Lorna (Lorne) Ollerhead and Corrine (David) Walcher; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister Monica (Gordon) Metka and many, many dear friends.
Grant was predeceased by his parents, Henry Joseph and Gladys “Ruth” Holden, son Phillip Grant Holden and son-in-law Melvin Earl Palmer.
Grant served in the Canadian Military from 1960-1975 as a load master for the C130 Hercules and was proud to say that he visited every country around the world except those that were communist controlled. After his service, he became a journeyman carpenter and operated his own business, “Grant’s Custom Carpentry”, for many years. His family reaped the benefits of his amazing woodworking talent with cedar chests, toy boxes, dressers and change tables, all made with love and expert craftsmanship.
In 1984, Grant did the first “Live-in” and from then on, dedicated his life to the glory of God and bringing people to the Lord. He organized and worked with “Live-ins” in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Lethbridge for many years. Grant spent some time in Yellowknife and hosted several Alpha courses, Life in the Spirit Seminars, Bible Studies, taught courses on how to pray, and performed Healing Prayers with many people. He is remembered by many friends and family, from all walks of life, who have been touched by his ability to share the good word of the gospel.
Grant’s passing has been an incredible loss to his soul mate Shelley but all take comfort that his legacy of compassion, honesty and integrity lives on in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
