DENNIS LOUIS LAGASSE passed away with family and friends by his side at Good Samaritans West Highlands Centre & Estates in Lethbridge, on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
Dennis was born on a farm near Fort Macleod on April 13, 1944. The only son of Annie Lemire and Louis Lagasse, Dennis grew up with four sisters. In 1961, he moved to Shilo, Manitoba, when he enlisted in basic training in the Canadian Forces. Dennis spent a couple of years being posted at the School of Artillery also in Shilo. He then served in both Germany and Cyprus before his honourable discharge from the military in 1969. He received the following medals from the Canadian Forces: Special Service Medal (SSM), Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM) and the UN Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
Shortly after he left the military, Dennis married Judy Chaisson and moved to Alberta, eventually settling in Lethbridge, where they were blessed with their three children – Mark, Nicholle and Paul.
Dennis continued his career in service at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre in 1972, eventually becoming Deputy Director, before retiring. In recognition of his admirable performance of duties, Dennis received the Corrections Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General on December 31, 1999.
In his retirement, Dennis enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Particularly, in the last couple of years, this time included, coffee on Tuesday mornings with his retired friends, visiting with his sons and grandkids, regular family dinners with his sister Jackie Low (Bill) and niece Delaney Low (Jim) as well as regular visits with a step niece Dani Booth and her partner Christina Skeith
Dennis is survived by his two boys: Mark (Jodi) and their two children Luke and Kate; and Paul and his four children, Tia, Charlie, Corbin, and Sam; as well as two sisters: Jackie (Bill) Low and Michelle (Buzz) Muller; and Dani Booth and Christina Skeith.
He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Annie Lagasse, daughter, Nicholle Lagasse and sisters Madeline Thompson and Bernadette England.
He will be dearly missed.
A Prayer Service and Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Sharon Hagel officiating.
