On January 25, 2019, after spending a great afternoon with his Bridge family, CURTIS DAVID LARKO passed.
He will be dearly missed by his Mom Debra, Sister Nadine (Clayton), Gran Aitken along with numerous Aitken, Strauts and Larko family members.
Curtis was predeceased by his Father David and Grandpa Frank.
Curtis David Larko was born in Lethbridge on January 21, 1975. Growing up, Curtis loved camping, riding motor bikes, playing hockey and golf. Curtis had many fond memories and built lifelong friendships growing up on Laval Court. Many weekends were spent camping with friends and family. He was always adventurous and willing to be the first one off a jump on his dirt bike or through a mud pit or a river in his jeep. He was a natural athlete and always excelled in sports; he played many years of rep hockey in Lethbridge and continued as an adult. He was even fortunate enough to get drafted in the WHL.
After high school, Curtis worked at Costco for a number of years where he made many long term friendships. Curtis transferred with Costco to Vancouver in 1999 to live with his sister. During his time in Vancouver, he enjoyed many years of skiing, mountain biking, golfing and most of all, spending time with his sister. He would do anything for that girl and always had her back! Eventually Curtis decided to move back to Lethbridge to spend more time with his Mom and Gran.
Over the past months, Curtis was a painter for Derochie Painting but his new passion was bridge and he spent many hours playing cards at the Lethbridge Bridge Club. He was welcomed with open arms and good friendships quickly formed. A great moment was the Christmas tournament with Mabel, the oldest member and Curtis the youngest . . a 50 year age difference between them.
Curtis was a loving, loyal and compassionate person. His laugh was contagious and would always brighten up your day! He was a social person with an extremely outgoing personality and connected with almost everyone young and old. He would (and literally did once) give away his new shoes, right off his feet, to someone in need. Curtis was always willing to lend a hand to neighbours and friends. Occasionally he had to defend his friends, family or even complete strangers who found themselves in a corner and believe me, he always ended up on top!
Curtis loved animals and connected with them within minutes of meeting. He would often bring home strays and also adopted his pets from local shelters. He especially loved his dogs Hailey, Eva and Claire Bear; they would spend hours together on various walks, hikes, car rides and often just sitting watching TV on the couch.
Through all his struggles, he always stayed positive and strived to maintain his loyalty to family and friends. He was an individual that did not take the easy road. He always knew that his Mom, Sister and Gran were there with unconditional love and support all the way through.
He and all his family, including his Mom, Sister, Gran, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins were fortunate to spend a great Christmas together and celebrate Gran’s 90th Birthday.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Reception at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive, Lethbridge on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.
