DARRYL LITTLE BEAR “Kiitah iinoopah tsi tah” (Never Been Shot), of the Blood Reserve, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Foothills Health Centre in Calgary, on Friday, October 11, 2024 at the age of 68 years.
Darryl affectionately known as “Uncle Buck” was born in Cardston October 28, 1955 to William Little Bear and Agnes Manyfingers. He is survived by his wife Mary Weasel Fat, children: Maya Little Bear, Waylon Little Bear, and Lorelee White Quills; grandchildren: Ryder Little Bear, Paige Little Bear, Cruz Fox, Brixton English, Drew Little Bear, Chloe Little Bear, and Kaydence Teslyn White Quills; adopted daughters: Vanessa (Colin) Frank, Stephanie Weasel Fat, and Lynette Scott; as well as his siblings: Norman Manyfingers, Donald Little Bear, Shaun Little Bear, and Sandra Singer (Barney); in-laws: Daniel (Marci) Weasel Fat, Roy (Patsy) Weasel Fat, Geraldine Weasel Fat (Joe), Justin Weasel Fat, Donna (Larry) Weasel Fat, Vernon Weasel Fat, and Bertha Weasel Fat; uncles: Gary Little Bear, and Dr. Leroy (Amethyst) Little Bear; aunt Beverly Little Bear; uncle Alfred Standing Alone; and aunts: Sophie Tailfeathers & Aunt Nita Wells.
He was predeceased by his parents, William & Agnes; brother Casey Singer; grandchildren: Linnea Brooke White Quills, Rylan James Wyatt Twigg, and Kieran Sharisse White Quills; niece Misty Little Bear; uncles: Gilbert Little Bear, and Morris Little Bear, aunt Janet Blood; nephews: Mickey Little Bear, and Tyler Little Bear. Fathers-In-law Dan Weasel Fat, Leonard Weasel Fat, Faye Tailfeathers, Max Weasel Fat, and Clarence Weasel Fat; and nephews: Jason Weasel Fat, Lenny Weasel Fat, Elliot Weasel Fat, Ilief McKay.
Darryl attended Catholic Central High School, Lethbridge, AB, and Keyano College, Ft. McMurray, AB. In Darryl’s early years, he was a racehorse trainer for Kenneth Tail Feathers, Sr. and was very proud of the many races they won. Darryl would put his skills and training to good use and was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator for St. Mary’s Dam and other companies involved in the project. With his skillset, Darryl helped out at Bill & Clark Auto for many years, where his brotherly bond with Clark Tailfeathers grew; they became inseparable. In Darryl’s final years before retirement, he became a swather operator for B&D Walters Farms and worked closely alongside his buddy, Colin Frank.
Darryl joined the SML Pool League with his family: Clarence Weasel Fat, Sandi Weasel Fat, Clark Tailfeathers and Henry Big Throat. They shared many crazy stories of their carpooling for Wednesday night league and won their B2 division; he was very proud of their win and his trophy.
For many years, Darryl traveled the Pow Wow trail with his wife Mary, a traditional dancer, his daughter Maya, Jingle Dress dancer and grandson Ryder who affectionately called him Papa. Darryl’s families are the Little Bears, Manyfingers, Bloods and Weasel Fats.
A Wake will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.
Following the Funeral Mass, Darryl will be laid to rest in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
