ANNIE “ANNE” MACPHEAT (née Luciak), beloved wife of the late Louis MacPheat, passed away peacefully at the West Highlands Good Samaritans, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the age of 91 years.

Anne is survived by her children: Stuart (Nola) MacPheat, Heather Hudson and Tannis (Rob) Gunderson; grandchildren: Shannon (Wayne) Stigter, Christine MacPheat, Matthew MacPheat, Wayne (May) Hudson, Kira O’Sullivan, Ben (Shannon) O’Sullivan, Robbie (Ashlyn) Gunderson, Karlee (Josh) Scott, and Kristen (Josh) Smith as well as 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Vic (Joan) Luciak.

Besides her loving husband Louis “Lou”, Anne was predeceased by her daughter Cindy Lou Dianne MacPheat and her parents Lazari Luciak and Euginia Prodoniuk.

Anne was born in Bassano, Alberta on November 28, 1931 and her father worked on the railroad. They lived at a whistle-stop between Taber and Suffield until the age of six, when she had to move away for school in Tilley. The family moved for the railroad and schools changed often. For high school, Anne moved to Brooks and stayed with various families. She learned hairdressing from one of these families and was very good at it. She met Lou on a train between Medicine Hat and Cassils, while travelling for a shopping trip. Shortly thereafter, they were married in Calgary, AB.

Anne and Lou moved to Edmonton, where they welcomed three children, then on to Vancouver where they welcomed their fourth child. After that, they moved on to Calgary and Fort Macleod, where Lou worked and they also owned a motel. Anne and Lou shared a love for travelling and were avid snowbirds for 30 years, beginning in their 50’s. Anne loved packing up the motorhome and always had a box ready to leave at any moment. They met many new friends along their journeys and stayed in touch over the years. Even following her husband’s passing, Anne continued to travel as she took to the airways and hit destinations such as Mexico and Alaska along with family. When she wasn’t travelling, Anne would spend her time gardening, enjoying all her grandchildren, doing crafts, baking and reading.

She really enjoyed being an active member of The Order of The Eastern Star and had just received her 50 year pin this year. She especially enjoyed the fellowship and support of this organization and its’ members.

Anne will be forever known for her love for her family, her kindness and compassion for others, and for her tremendous work ethic. Everyone who knew Anne understands just how special a lady she really was.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 2:00 P.M, with Reverend Lois Punton officiating. The Celebration of Life will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Anne’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
