THOMAS ALLAN “RED” McLEOD passed away peacefully Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Lethbridge AB, after learning of a diagnosis of advance cancer last week.  Tom was comforted by the loving presence of friends and family, while in the hospital.  The family is grateful for the professional care and comfort provided by his medical support team at Chinook Regional Hospital. We were blessed that he remained conscious and free of pain in his final days.

Tom, the eldest of four children was born December 14, 1931 in the remote community of Pouce Coupe, B.C (Near Dawson Creek), where his parents Allan and Jean McLeod homesteaded.  At the age of 10, the family moved to Vancouver Island, but the Rocky Mountains and foothills of the Canadian prairies always remain home in his heart. After working with the West Coast Naval Fire Dept., Tom moved to Calgary in the 1960’s.  His life passions included the back country and horses, and he was well known for his preference for wearing western boots and shirts, often dressed as a character from a western film (One can do that living in Calgary). Tom was active in the RCL, a long-time member of Branch 102, and founding member of branch 289. After retirement, Tom spent some time living with his son Thomas in Winnipeg, and returned last year to southern Alberta to live near his son Rob as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Tom was predeceased by his brothers John and Bill McLeod on Vancouver Island, and is lovingly remembered by his sister Jean in Victoria, BC.  he was predeceased by his first wife Eunice and second wife Barbara. Tom was a strong influence in the lives of both his sons Rob and Thomas.  He will be remembered with love for his unique sense of humor and colourful use of language. It is difficult to summarize a life well lived but he leaves behind and will be remembered by a legacy of two granddaughters, Kelly Ann and Rebecca Jean, and great grandchildren Joshua, Emily, Mark and Gavin who all reside in southern Alberta.  He will also be remembered by a number of nieces and nephews in BC along with a wide circle of friends across Canada.

According to his wishes Tom will be cremated without a service. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to this month’s Poppy Fund, a charity that was close to Tom’s heart.
