MARIA THEODORA VREDEGOOR-MORRIS, aka Marie, of Raymond, passed away at the Good Samaritans Prairie Ridge in Raymond, on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the age of 82 years.

Marie is survived by her one son, Rene, who was adopted by her brother Mike and his wife Lois Vredegoor. She is also survived by sisters: Henny Raats, Anne (Conrad) Verbaas, and Lena Vredegoor; brothers Hank (Agi) Vredegoor and Gary (Jennie Van Spronsen) Vredegoor, sisters-in-law: Anne Marie Vredegoor and Dora Vredegoor as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Gerarda Vredegoor; sisters: Diane Berns and Grada Vredegoor; brothers Everett, Martin, Ben, Father Sylvester Vredegoor and Mike Vredegoor; sister-in-law Mary Vredegoor and brothers-in-law Ted Berns and Tony Raats.

Marie Vredegoor was born May 8, 1940 in Drempt, Gelderland, Holland, the ninth child of Anthony and Gerarda Vredegoor. WWII had just started, and Holland was under German occupation. Times were tough for everyone.

Marie attended a mentally handicapped school in Doesburg, Holland, where she learned everyday skills. Marie and her family immigrated to Canada on April 8, 1953, arriving in Halifax at Pier 21, then taking the train to Swift Current, SK.

The family moved to Alberta in 1956, settling in the Shaughnessy area. Marie moved to Calgary in 1970 and attended VRRI, to learn more everyday skills. It was at VRRI that she met Bill Morris, and they got married on November 8, 1975.

Marie moved to the Crowsnest Pass in 1998, and worked at the Mountainview Industries. She lived in Lethbridge for a few years, then settled in Raymond until her passing.

The family would like to thank all the workers that helped her in her lifetime. A special mention to the staff at Prairie Ridge Good Samaritans.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Patrick Siedlecki officiating. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Marie’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.

Following the Funeral Service, Marie will be laid to rest with her parents in Mountain View Cemetery.
