JAMES “JIM” ROY MORRISON, beloved husband of Chris Morrison, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2026 at the age of 83.
Born in Lethbridge, Jim grew up at a natural gas plant camp on the South Saskatchewan River, where his dad, Jack, worked for Canadian Western Natural Gas as foreman.
Jim began his professional career in Calgary in the fall of 1968, following graduation and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon. This is where he met his future wife, Chris Morrison who also graduated from the U of O.
A hard worker, he learned much about commercial development and the importance of the insurance industry in nearly all of Western Canada and it became his “home turf”. As head of Alberta’s investigations dealing with commercial insurance, Jim worked hard to learn the “ins” and “outs” of his career.
It was his dedication to “do well” that opened a tiny crack for more opportunities, primarily in Northern and Western Canada until the late 1970’s. He became the first long-time head of the Alberta Provincial Insurance Advisory Committee, based in Edmonton, a position he held for nine years.
When he retired, he and Chris added even more delightful surroundings and interests to their lives, spending summers in Waterton Lakes National Park and winters in warm parts of the United States.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
