Joan is survived by her loving husband, John Olineck; their only daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Ripplinger; Her grandchildren: Brooke Ripplinger (Wyatt) and their children Rhett and Nash Hinson, Joshua Ripplinger (Resh) and Morgan Ripplinger (Matt); her brothers: Steff (Ann) Stephansson, Neil (MaryAnn) Stephansson and Scott (Tannis) Stephansson; and her only sister, Cheryl (Jim) Redmond; as well as her brother-in-law, Mitch (Ruth) Olineck and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Norman and Beulah Stephansson; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Anne Olineck; brother and sister-in-law, Orest and Sylvia Olineck; and nephew, Bryan Stephansson.
Joan Stephansson was born on May, 11th 1952, to Dr. Norman and Beulah Stephansson in Flin Flon, MB.
She met her love for life, John Olineck and later married on August, 3rd, 1974. In February 1977, they welcomed their first and only child, Stephanie.
Joan kept herself busy selling Mary Kay Cosmetics while Stephanie was younger. Later, she would get her Business Administration Degree through Athabasca University. Once she completed her degree, she worked at Flin Flon Metis Friendship Centre doing bookkeeping and then eventually, started doing taxes for H&R Block in FlIn Flon.
When the grandchildren started to arrive, she enjoyed trips to Prince Albert to help with Brooke, Joshua and Morgan. They were definitely their grandparents’ pride and joy. Any opportunity to come and visit, whether jumping on the bus or in the car they came.
Once John retired from HBM&S in 2006, they moved to Lethbridge, AB to enjoy their retirement.
They enjoyed travelling, going to many sporting events, including becoming season ticket holders with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. They also loved going to cheer on their granddaughter’s fastball teams in their various tournaments and championships.
In late 2020, Joan started her journey with Lewy Body Dementia, which would take her to Edith Cavell Care Centre on Victoria Lane, where she was so well taken care of and loved by all who cared for her. She battled so hard right till the end.
She will be missed by so many…
Joan’s family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Edith Cavell for the wonderful and compassionate care provided over the last four years.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edith Cavell Care Centre, 1255-5 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0V6.
