JANICE DOROTHY PARKHILL went to be with her Saviour on Sunday, December 31, 2017. She passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 81 years.
She is survived by her children: Chris (Amy) Parkhill of Calgary, Wendy Parkhill, Lea Vadnais (Brent Brooks), all of Lethbridge; and four grandchildren: Justin, Jennie, Matthieu and Anique. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters: Pearl Farrell of Australia and Carole Ferguson of Sylvan Lake. She was predeceased by her parents Boss and Burga Zoeteman.
Born in Fort Macleod in 1936, Janice moved to Pincher Creek in 1938 where she grew up on a farm until her family moved to town. She completed her public education and continued on to Mount Royal College to complete her secretarial diploma.
Janice married and raised her family in High River. This is where she began her career caring for seniors as matron of The Medicine Tree Manor. She later moved to Lethbridge where she continued her career in caring for people through We Care home care agency.
Janice loved to spend time with her grandchildren, teaching them to bake cinnamon buns or having a fierce game of tile rummy. She had many outlets for her creativity. She was an avid gardener and the result was a stunning collection of both common and unique plants that were enviable. She also spent a period of time designing and sewing bears and dolls that became beloved gifts for family and friends. She loved to travel and spent time in Australia visiting her sister and travelling with her family.
Janice had a generous heart and spent years as a sponsor of World Vision children, writing and encouraging them through to adulthood. She faithfully supported many other charities throughout the years.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at the LETHBRIDGE CHRISTIAN TABERNACLE, 1805 – 9 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Frank Allen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Mom’s honour.
