“Trevlord”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, Trevor Memphis Plaited Hair, on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at the age of 38 years.
Trevor was born on December 27, 1983 at the Cardston Municipal Hospital, to Lavern Plaited Hair and David Many Bears. Trevor was raised on the Blood Reserve in the Standoff and Bullhorn area with his siblings, numerous cousins and friends from the Plaited Hair, Eagle Speaker, Many Bears and Many Grey Horses families.
In Trevor’s early years, he was fortunate to have been raised near his grandmother, Amy Plaited Hair. Amy loved and cared deeply for her grandson and always made sure he had everything he needed. Trevor was a Kipitapoka.
Trevor comes from a rich heritage where both sides of his families were deeply connected to their traditional Blackfoot ways. Trevor’s father David and numerous relatives from both sides of his families were members of the Horn Society. Trevor would often attend his family, the Many Grey Horses’ All-Night Smokes and other ceremonies, including our annual Sundance. After a ceremony, he would return and share these stories with his mom and brothers.
Trevor attended school on the Blood reserve; Standoff Elementary School, Kainai High School and later, went on to attend Red Crow Community College.
On the paternal side of his family, Trevor came from the Fish Eaters Clan and has a significant heritage; Trevor is the fifth and sixth generation to great chiefs of the Kainai Nation, as his ancestral heritage includes being a great-great-grandson to Chief Red Crow, whose father is Chief Seen From Afar.
Trevor is also the great-great-great-grandson of Long Time Squirrel – Miisommiikasoom, who was well known for his vast herd of horses that numbered in the thousands and was a well-known bucking horse stock contractor who held the famous horse brand “Lazy B 161”.
Trevor’s matriarch side of the family was his great-grandfather, Bob Plaited Hair’, Kotoo. Kotoo was a prominent’ father, grandfather, leader and elder to the Plaited Hair family and was well-known amongst the Blood people. He raised his Plaited Hair family to value family kinship that extended to later generations.
Trevor upheld these qualities of having a strong family kinship that was deep rooted within his identity and outlook on life. If you knew Trevor, you’ll be sure to have been greeted warmly and no departure was ever left without a hug and, “I love you”, acknowledging his special kinship to each and everyone he was connected to.
Trevor was rich in kindness, a quality he definitely got from his mother, Lavern, as he always made everyone feel acknowledged and appreciated as a loving relative. He was a humorous, free-spirited guy and would always take up any adventure with friends and family. In life challenges, Trevor had his ways of keeping issues or mistakes in check by not allowing it to over shadow life itself. A teaching he placed upon his love ones.
Trevor was a good man with a rich heritage and we thank God for him. He leaves us with good memories and he will forever be in our hearts. Trevor will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his special niece Savannah and his biological and adopted brothers and sisters.
Trevor we love you and our hearts break to know our Great Spirit has called you home.
