With great sadness our beloved Benita Ann Red Crow, passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital. She was born on July 25, 1968, and died on April 17, 2022, at the age of 53 years old. She is survived by her beloved husband, Melvin Wells, her beautiful daughter, Talyssa Vielle, and talented granddaughter, Cashton No Runner. She is also survived by her dad, Ben Red Crow. Her siblings, Kurt (Cheryl), Tom (Marcella), Joe, and Cindy. Her uncles Alex (Jack) Red Crow, and Conrad MacDonald. Her cousins Mervin and Lloyd MacDonald, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
She is predeceased by her mother; Patricia (Mary) Red Crow. Her sister; Miranda Minde. Her aunties; Marjorie MacDonald, Mildred Wilson, Rosaline Spear Chief, Stella Morin. Her uncles; Anthony Wells and Woodrow Wells. Her cousins; Alden (Booboo) MacDonald and Alvin (Fendo) MacDonald. Her son-in-law; Terry Many Fingers. Her nephews; Curtis Lee Red Crow, and Baby Robert. Her nieces; Kristen Weasel Moccasin, and Terrelle Minde.
As a young girl, Benita, was loved by all her siblings. Her parents, Ben and Patricia (Mary) taught Benita to be a devout Catholic, a practice she would carry her entire life. Her parents had so much pride and joy in her carefree spirit. She will always be known for her amicable sense of humour. As a young girl she attended W.A. Davis and Cardston High School.
When Benita reached adulthood, she met the late Colin Vielle, and both became Talyssa’s parents. Being a mother was a role Benita excelled in as she was always by Talyssa’s side, caring for her and being there for her in every way possible. When Benita became a grandmother to Cashton, she was beyond happy. She spoke highly of her granddaughters’ achievements to everyone. There was no doubt that Benita carried so much pride in Talyssa and Cashton.
Benita attended NAIT and the University of Lethbridge, where she completed her Bachelor of Education. She also received her Special Education Certificate in BC. In 2013 she started her Master’s in Education. Benita developed a passion to become a teacher then used her skills and abilities at Hobbema Schools, Brocket Community School, and Kanai High School. She stood out to her students as an educator because of her charisma.
Benita would soon meet her husband, Melvin. The pair of them were inseparable. They supported each other and loved each other without judgement. She was very happy to be with an amazing spouse who loved her for her.
Her nieces and nephews will always remember her for being present in all their activities. She encouraged everyone to continue their education journey. She always found numerous ways to help her nieces and nephews.
She will always be remembered for greeting everyone with a hug. She was always so happy to see family and friends. She was not shy, as she always made people laugh. Her smile was infectious, her personality helped her make numerous friends, and she cared for everyone she met. She will be missed by so many people.
A Wake will be held at WHITE CALF HALL, Stand Off, AB, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, Blood Reserve, AB, on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Pawel Andrasz O.M.I. Celebrating.
Following the Mass, Benita will be laid to rest in Blood Band Cemetery.
