It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of ROBERT “BOB” EDWARD RICE, loving husband of Mrs. Mieke Rice of Lethbridge, suddenly at their home in Waterton on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the age of 74 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
Bob is survived by his wife Mieke (nee Groenenboom); his four sons: Michael (Nikki), Jason (Alanna), Alan (Lindsay), and Tyler (Catherine); and his grandchildren: Carson, Hayden, Zoey, Caelum, Sam, Shane, Abby and Gage, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Noiles (Jim), brother George, aunt Angie Rice, uncle Ray Anderson, nieces and cousins from the Rice family, and many Groenenboom relatives with whom he shared a professional and personal relationship.
He is predeceased by many relatives; including his parents Donald and Ruth, his uncle Edward Rice, and numerous uncles, aunts, and brothers-in-law. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends and colleagues and former clients who will miss his warmth, witty humour, and unwavering support.
Bob was born on May 9, 1950 in Lethbridge. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and the University of Lethbridge. His career started with the Bank of Commerce and he went on to build a successful career as a Chartered Accountant in Southern Alberta. He was known for his dedication to his work, his integrity, and his commitment to helping his clients and community.
Family was the cornerstone of Bob’s life. He took great pride in his sons’ achievements and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. Bob’s home was always filled with laughter, love, and the smells of his favourite dishes, especially hot sauces.
Bob had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time in the mountains. His adventurous spirit and love for nature were contagious, inspiring many to join him on his outdoor excursions.
Bob’s legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family and community will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
We lost a wonderful, loving person and anyone who had the privilege of meeting him knew he was a true friend. His accomplishments in life were many and profound but he will be remembered first and foremost for being there for anyone who needed help or advice. A true and caring friend.
Rest in peace, Bob.
