JOSEPH EDWARD SAMUELS passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the age of 96 years
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey and their five children: Yvonne (Robert) Edwards of Medicine Hat, Richard Lee (Sheri) of Lethbridge, Karlyne (Carla) of Coaldale and their two daughters Cheris (Ryan) Samuels-Murdoch and Courtney (Ryan) Stanyer of Lethbridge, Bylinda (William) Mason of Lethbridge and their son William Jr. of Calgary, and Chrislyn (Bruce) Sekiya of Edmonton and their two sons Jeremy (Dianna) and Jordan.
Joseph (Joe) Edward Samuels was born in Karachi, British India on December 6, 1921. In the early 40s he joined the British Army, Royal Signals Division (communications) and married Ellen Zimmerman in 1945. They had two children: Yvonne and Richard Lee. Ellen passed away in 1948, and in 1952 Joe married Audrey Zimmerman and they had three children: Karlyne (Karl), Bylinda and Chrislyn (Chris). Joe was predeceased by parents Edmund and Ruth Samuels, seven sisters and two brothers.
In 1949, Joe left Karachi, Pakistan for Bahrain, Arabian Gulf to work for the British company International Aeradio Ltd. as a Senior Technical Storekeeper. In 1971, Joe and Audrey and family immigrated to Lethbridge, Canada. Joe immediately had a job waiting for him at Prebuilt Industries of Lethbridge where he stayed until 1979, after which he joined the Solicitor General, Corrections as a Stores Supervisor until his retirement in 1986. Joe’s love for travel took him to many parts of the world. He was an avid sportsman and participated in the 1992 Alberta Summer Games. Joe also was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Over the past 47 years in Lethbridge, Joe has made many friends and memories. We are sure they will remember his contagious smile and fun-loving nature.
A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with Father Salvador Ahumada celebrating.
Joe will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery.
