GERALD EUGENE SCOTT was born on October 6, 1943, in Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick to James and Rita Scott. He was called by his second name Eugene “Gene”.  He had a Grade 13 education, equivalent to 1st year University. He liked math and Latin. He was raised Roman Catholic.

He started working at 17 years of age in asphalt and that became his whole life. He learned ALL the tricks from the older men who were eager to pass on their knowledge.  He learned every aspect of each job that is required laying asphalt and he worked them as well. He knew WHERE the water was going and where it needed to be, and HOW to get it there. Learned ” grade” or slope of the road and how much the “crown” in the middle of the road should be.  During his life, he was:  Superintendent, Estimator, Base Foreman, Asphalt Foreman, Loader Operator, Screed man, Raker man, and his favorite job was Paver Operator. He held a Class 1 license until 2000. Gene retired when he was 65, in 2009.

Gene loved his MUSIC! Not just Country, but a little bit of everything. Liona Boyd, Barbra Streisand, 101 String Orchestra, Martin Del Ray, Ray Price and Roger Miller to name a few. He had a CD, and CASSETTE and VINYL RECORD collection like no other.

On August 18, 2001 Gene Scott and Bonnie Reed were married in a civil ceremony in our apartment. We got around to our ” Honeymoon” in April of 2007 to see his family, relatives and friends in Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

In July of 2011, we drove to the west coast in his beloved 1990 Chrysler Imperial car and saw my relatives in Surrey, Richmond and over to Victoria on the ferry.

In 2018, we moved from Edmonton to Lethbridge.

We did EVERYTHING together! He told me, ” You are the BEST thing that ever happened to me!”

WE promised to honor, cherish, respect, and love one another in our vows.

Father Santiago Torres gave him last rites on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, August 1, I told him he could go ” home” to his reward; that I will be okay.  He passed peacefully that afternoon.

He was a GOOD man!  GOD LOVE HIM, cause I DID!
