Juanita Pearl Shade
January 7, 1964 – February 8, 2016
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Juanita Pearl Shade. Juanita passed away peacefully at age 52 after years of deteriorating health at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. She is survived by her adoptive parent’s cousins, Chris and Sandra Shade, her two aunts Flora Zaharia (Winnipeg, Manitoba) Aunt Agnes and Steve Valerio (Denver, Colorado), uncle Harrison and Cynthia, and cousins Ervin and Christine, Harriet and Leroy, Barry and Ronnie, Colleen, Don and Marie, Hank and Evelyn, Mavis and Dennis, Justin and Carrie, Bobby and Melanie, Bill and Melanie, Kathy and Darcy, Geraldine, Don and Mona, Bonnie and David, Steve Jr. Shannon, Frankie, Anita and numerous cousins.
Juanita was predeceased by her parents Andy and Edna, her brothers Bernard and Rocky, and her grandparents Chris and Katherine, uncles and aunts Allan and Louise, Gerald and Gloria, Stan Zaharia, cousins Keith, Oliver, Catherine, Jocelyn, Chris and Lyle.
Juanita was 5 years old when she moved to Winnipeg to live with Aunt and Uncle Flora and Stan and her cousins Chris and Don. Being a friendly little girl, Juanita had no difficulty in making friends with her kindergarten classmates and she really enjoyed going to school. When her kindergarten teacher discovered Juanita’s artistic ability, she would often display her art work in the classroom.
The same thing happened with her other teachers who encouraged her with her sketching. Juanita spent her summers in Alberta with her Dad Andy and Grandma Kate.
The year she was starting grade four, Juanita did not want to leave her family and friends in Alberta. She remained with her Dad and Grandma and continued her education in Cardston. At the passing of her father Andy Juanita then lived with Chris and Sandra and often times with Grandma Kate.
She eventually moved to Vancouver, B.C. at a young age to be with her mother and eventually moved to Kamloops upon the passing of her mother. When she started experiencing health problems she moved back home and eventually was a resident at the Fort Macleod Extendicare.
One of her joys was her trips to Lethbridge, on occasion Chris and Sandra would pick up Juanita and she would ask to be dropped off at the mall. She would often talk about her passion of reading mystery novels and on a nice day sitting outside feeding the birds at the Extendicare. She also had compassion for the residents at the Fort Macleod Extendicare and easily made new friends; when she was at the hospital Juanita would often phone back to check up on the residents. Juanita will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to convey our deepest appreciation for the kind care the Fort Macleod Extendicare staff provided for Juanita. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Lethbridge Regional Hospital medical team.
Family and friends are invited to a Wake Service at Cornerstone Funeral Home – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The Funeral Mass will be held at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH on the Blood Reserve, Alberta on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Father Pawel Andrasz celebrant.
