George Siegl passed away on February 2, 2022 at the age of 88 years. Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Maria and sons George (Sharon) and Perry (Melissa), grandchildren Sam (Carla), Maddie, Logan and Haley. George was predeceased by his parents George and Franzesca Siegl and brothers Wilhelm and Erik.
Born on September 20, 1933 in Schlammering, Cham, Bavaria, George joined the American Airforce in 1952 and became a Sargent at the age of 21 and had his own platoon.
George came to Canada in 1959 to visit his brother Willie in Lethbridge where he met his future wife Maria. Later that year, and thanks to his background in language skills, George was hired by Parks Canada and worked at Waterton Lake as a foreman where they were building the road at Chief Mountain.
George wanted to live in Lethbridge to be near Maria so later in 1959 he was hired by public works and was later transferred to the City of Lethbridge transit department. In 1960 George married the love of his life Maria. In 1961 son George was born followed by Perry in 1963. Later in his career George went to evening classes and became Operations Supervisor of the Transit System.
As a proud Bavarian, George enjoyed promoting his culture at the German Canadian Club. In 1975 George established the Hubertus Shooting Club which is still operating today.
In 1986 after remodeling his home Maria and George purchased a cabin at Beauvais Lake where many family and friends gathered.
In 1991 George was appointed on the Provincial Real Estate Board as Governor.
George retired from the City of Lethbridge in 1992 with 33 years of service. Maria and George traveled extensively enjoying retired life. In 1995 George was forced to retire from the Real Estate Board because of a brain tumour. After successful surgery George and Maria continued to enjoy retired life until his passing. George was loved so very much and will be dearly missed.
