It is with immense sorrow and heartache that we share the devasting news of the departure of Gordon Joesph Smeby, who left us on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge.
Gordon is survived by his children, Tammy Davidson (Mark) and Moe Smeby; brothers Glen (Shirley), Lorence (Mildred) and Donald (Lorraine); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Karen and sister Bernice, along with his mother Ida and father Johan.
On May 2, 1951, his beautiful soul came into this world in Paradise Hills. This gentle heart was born to Ida and Johan, two souls who have since departed. Gordon grew up in the small town of Cabri, Saskatchewan, alongside his three beloved brothers Lorence, Glen, and Donald, and his precious sister Bernice. Every moment was filled with love, joy, and unbreakable bonds that would last a lifetime. The memories of their shared childhood and the laughter that echoed through the humble streets will forever be etched in his heart, a reminder of the purest and most precious moments of his life.
Gordon’s love was boundless as he was a dedicated husband to Karen, who also departed far too soon. Gordon and Karen were inseparable, their bond was unbreakable and their connection unmeasurable. They were not just best friends, but soul mates destined to journey through life hand in hand. They loved as one, their souls intertwined in a beautiful dance that now they get to continue.
As a father, Gordon was nothing short of a pillar of strength and guidance to his children Tammy and Moe. He poured his heart and soul into spending quality time with his treasured children. Whether they were casting lines, gliding down snowy slopes or jetting off to different adventures. Gordon’s love for his children was unconditional and knew no bounds. Tammy added to the family when she married Mark who Gordon welcomed with open arms to join the family and they bonded over their love of sports together.
Gordon dedicated his life to the world of broadcasting for an incredible 45 years with over 30 of those spent with CTV News at Stations across the western provinces. His passion for his work was unmatched, inspiring minds to ignite and sharing his wisdom with those around him. Gordon left a lasting impact on anyone lucky enough to cross his path, weather as a colleague or friend.
He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
As per Gordon’s wishes, there will be no funeral but a celebration of life, being held at a later date.
