With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of David Smith at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, September 11, 2026 at the age of 83 years.

David is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan Smith; his daughter, Joy-Ann Smith; granddaughter, Meghan; and his daughter, Carol-Lynn Smith-Henke, and her husband, Doug.

David was born June 8, 1943, in Calgary, Alberta, and grew up in Warner. David loved cooking and spent many years working in kitchens, including the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton. Many lifelong friendships began around a kitchen, including his relationship with Jan, whom he met in Nordegg. They married in 1975. Whether as a chef, husband, father, grandfather, or friend, David shared love through food and was happiest gathering people around a meal.

During his retirement he continued to give generously, volunteering his time cooking for Alpha-Explore Faith at E Free Church and barbecuing for Friendship Force gatherings, while also enjoying travel with Jan and friends through Friendship Force International.

David’s laugh was infectious, his smile came easily, and his hugs were always heartfelt. With his gentle presence and kind heart, he listened deeply, cared sincerely, and had a way of making people feel heard, uplifted, and blessed.

David’s warmth, kindness, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Service will be held at EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH OF LETHBRIDGE, 4717 – 24 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 1:00 P.M.
