Our beloved friend, JAYNE CORINNE SNIDER, died peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at ther Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. She was 55 years old.
Jayne was born on November 28, 1962 in Camrose, Alberta to Leroy and Anne Corrine Snider. At the age of five, like so many other Albertans with disabilities of her generation, Jayne was admitted to the Michener Centre in Red Deer where she resided for the rest of her childhood and into her young adult years. In 1991, just shy of her 29th birthday, Jayne found a new home as a founding member of L’Arche Lethbridge, as well as a new place of work with Quest Support Services.
Despite her tiny stature, Jayne leaves a great legacy of a better society and better people as her life’s work and calling. She was a trailblazer in Lethbridge in the movement toward greater inclusion for people with disabilities. She herself gave no weight whatsoever to any of the differences that others use to divide us, but regarded each person she met equally as a friend. By her humble example, she taught us that the essence of being human is nothing more, and nothing less, than loving with our whole hearts and being fully present to each other. Jayne never spoke a word, and took pleasure in the very simplest things of life, yet she had the ability to profoundly touch the heart of each person who met her. We are all better people for having known her.
Jayne’s memory will live on in the hearts of many friends here in Lethbridge and young people from around the world who lived with her and whose hands she held over the years. She will be especially missed by her long-time friends, Virginia and Margaret, to whom she was affectionately known as Bear.
Jayne was predeceased by her grandmother, Helen Anne Jackson (“Nanny”) and her mother, Anne Corinne Snider. Mourning her passing are her father, Leroy Snider; her sister, Leanne (Francis) Thomsen and children, Ben (Katelynn), Keihli (Ian), Krysta, and Julie; and her brother, Brian Snider, and children, Jesse and Hannah.
A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M., with an informal service beginning at 10:00 A.M.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant.
Jayne will be laid to rest at a later date in the Valleyview Cemetery in Camrose, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jayne’s honour to L’Arche Association of Lethbridge, 240 – 12C Street North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 2M7.
