BARBARA “BARB” JUNE THOMPSON passed away peacefully at home after a long struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at the age of 71 years.
Barb was born on September 30, 1954 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, and grew up in Gibsons, British Columbia. She was the youngest of three children born to Cecil Albert Thompson, a veteran of World War II, and Theresa Agnes Thompson. Both of her parents immigrated from England following the war and carried a deep pride in their English heritage. Barb was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Michael (2003) and Ernest (2020), and her long-time partner, Ian Sudlow (1988).
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Warren Thompson, Kathleen Thompson, and Carlene Carifelle, and by her four grandchildren: Rylen, Isabelle, Kingston, and Alexis.
Barb dedicated over a decade to working as a health care aide at Good Samaritan Society West Highlands in Lethbridge, where she cared for residents living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. She was known for her compassion and commitment to the dignity and quality of life of those she cared for.
Barb loved animals, music, books, and creative hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, and baking. She enjoyed road trips, adventures, the ocean, and the mountains. She was also a lifelong hockey fan who cheered for the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers. Her favorite artists included The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, and Reba McEntire.
Barb will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need. She believed in peace, love, and acceptance, and shared that spirit with everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barb’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca).
