JOSEPH “JOE” GARFIELD THOMPSON died in St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit in Lethbridge with his beloved wife Miriam Thompson by his side on Sunday, December 7, 2018 at the age of 75 years.
He leaves his wife of 50 years Miriam; his son Kurt Thompson, daughter Melissa Lozoff; two grandchildren; sister Diana White; and many beloved friends.
Joe was born and raised in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia by his loving parents Joseph and Mable Thompson. At the age of 19, Joe started his teaching career and went on to become an esteemed Math Teacher for 34 years in Taber, Alberta. He was highly regarded and treasured by both teachers and students alike, and kept in touch with many of his students over the years. Joe was an active member of his community and a part of many organizations: The Kinsmen, The Moose, The Lethbridge Chapter of the United Ostomy Association, to name a few. Enjoying life to the fullest Joe was an avid card and game player, led long hikes and, after retiring in 1997, travelled the world with his wife. The life of the party, Joe was always kind, welcoming and so much fun to be around; an energetic loving spirit that will be missed by so many.
