DON VAN CAMP, beloved husband of Kathy Leavitt, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at the age of 66 years.
Along with his wife, he is lovingly remembered by his children, Brady (Kendra), Clayton (Mikayla) and Jessie (Jordan) Van Camp, stepchildren Marty (Becky) and Chad (Jada) Leavitt and their families, brother Dana (Hilda) and their children, David and Adam Van Camp as well as nephew Chris Quantock.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Donald and June (nee Brown) Van Camp as well as his sister, Sue Van Camp-Quantock.
Don was born in Timmins, ON, April 28, 1951. In 1953, his family moved to Kingston and then on to Newmarket, where he remained for his adolescent and teenage years. He moved away from home at age 18 and went to work for a few years for RBC in many small Ontario towns. He eventually moved to Hamilton and worked for Ford Credit for five years. In 1980, Don moved to Calgary where he also worked in the banking industry. He eventually transferred to Lethbridge and this is where he met, and later married Marjorie Macleod. Don and Marjorie raised three beautiful children, Brady, Clayton and Jessie and he changed careers to work for the Federal Government until retiring in 2012. for 30 years, a very important part of their family life was spent in “Cottage Country” of northern Ontario on Trout Spawn Lake, where they, along with many friends, enjoyed boating, swimming and all kinds of activities from Regattas to Horseshoe Tournaments. He would often fondly remark, “There’s nothing like summer in the northern woods.”
In 2010, Don met Kathy Leavitt and in 2013, they were married, joining our families together. Don and Kathy enjoyed many adventures to Mexico and Jamaica as well as travelling the summers in their motor home from Napa Valley.
A Celebration of Don`s Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 1:00 P.M.
