1943–2026
With sadness, and also deep relief, we announce that John Vant Land passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after a very lengthy battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). He was 82 years old.
John is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Teena; his son Brad Vant Land (Michelle); his daughters Tania Heins (Mark) and Karen Van Seters (Randy); and eight grandchildren: Nolan and Koby Vant Land; Kolten, Jesse, Easton, and Nyomi Heins; Jakob and Luka Van Seters. He is also survived by his sister Hennie Korver; brother Hans Van’t Land (Rita); brothers‑in‑law Durk de Jong and Len Vogelaar; and Teena’s brother Clarence Kits (Doreen) and sister Swancie Soley (Jack).
He was predeceased by his parents, Cornelis and Alice Van’t Land; his in‑laws, Herman John and Linda Kits; his three older sisters, Betty Vogelaar, Janny de Jong, and Wilma Sandstra; and numerous in‑laws also from Teena’s family.
John was a hardworking and devoted provider, owning Bridge Central Service & Towing Ltd. since the 1970s. Outside of work, gospel music was a defining part of his life. He sang tenor in the men’s quartet Harmony 4 and in the Lethbridge Christian Men’s Choir. He delighted in teaching his children and grandchildren the old, fun songs, “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?”, “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic”, “There’s a Hole in the Bucket,” and many more.
John cherished family trips to Hawaii and loved camping with family, especially during the 16 years at their much‑loved spot on the Moyie River.
We take comfort knowing he is no longer suffering from PSP and is now with his Lord and Saviour, in whom he placed his trust throughout his life.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers from Seamless Cares Ltd. Their excellent care over the past two years allowed John to remain in his home, and we could not be more grateful.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Grace Reformed Church, 1402 – 8 Avenue North, Lethbridge, on Friday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Paul Van Stralen officiating. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed through John’s obituary on the Cornerstone website or through the church’s website. John will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Royal View Cemetery.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Christian Schools in Lethbridge.
