“It was just a highway tractor hauling vehicles that had caught fire about 10 or 15 kilometres north of Highway 3 on Highway 22,” said Pat Neumann, Deputy Fire Chief at Pincher Creek Emergency Services.

Highway 22 was closed in both directions as crews attended the scene.

However, Neumann noted that as of 8:30 a.m., firefighters were back at the station and one lane had been reopened.

Neumann said there were fortunately no injuries.

“The driver was able to get out and basically, they were fortunate enough that it was just the highway tractor – the trailer – and most of the contents of the trailer were still okay,” he told LNN, adding there was only one occupant in the vehicle.

He suspects the area will continue to operate as a single lane for “three or four hours” until it’s fully open again. Motorists are advised to expect delays.
