Fire Bans and restrictions increase with hot temperatures

Jun 28, 2021 | 4:51 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — As predicted, the hot temperatures have prompted not only heat warnings but, also fire bans and and restrctions. Lethbridge County has issued a Fire Ban on all open fires within its municipal boundaries.

As well, all active fire permits are cancelled, and no new permits will be issued until further notice. Burning of any kind is not permitted, including recreational fire pits, burning anything in a barrel, household garbage, yard debris, etc.

Fireworks are NOT permitted, even for Canada Day.

Fires that are contained in cooking or heating appliances fueled by fluids or gasses (gas or propane fueled fire rings, BBQs, stoves, and heaters) are exempt from the ban.

The M.D. of Willow Creek, the County of 40-Mile, Vulcan County, Cypress County of the County of Newell have all issued fire Restrictions, with all fire permits suspended until further notice. The restriction could become a “fire ban” with little to no notice due to the weather.

Burning during a Fire Ban is illegal, and fines apply.

Those heading into the back-country or any parks, are reminded to check Albertafirebans.ca to updated information and burning restrictions which may change quickly.
