Tractor trailer hauling hay catches fire west of Coalhurst

UPDATE: The fire has been extinguished and the traffic detour has ended.

COALHURST, AB – A tractor trailer hauling hay caught fire Friday morning, June 3, 2022, just west of Coalhurst. The driver of the semi was able to quickly disconnect from the trailer and get themselves and their rig to safety.

Police and Fire crews responded quickly and managed to get the blaze under control. Roughly a quarter of the hay being hauled was damaged because of the fire.

Police diverted eastbound traffic onto River Ridge Road at the intersection of Range Road 230-A and Highway 3 for several hours.

A separate tractor trailer and loader were also on-scene to help with the clean-up.
