Fire ban lifted for Lethbridge County, fire restriction now in place

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – The fire ban in Lethbridge County has been lifted, but a fire restriction has been put in place for the region until further notice.

The fire ban had been put in place on Friday, August 19, 2022, but officials at Lethbridge County said Thursday, August 25, 2022 that due to the cooler temperatures and precipitation seen in the area this week, the ban has been changed to a restriction.

Under the fire restriction, no fire permits or fireworks permits will be issued until further notice. All active permits are cancelled, and fines will apply for burning while the restriction is in place.

Recreational campfires (campground and backyard fire pits) and acceptable incinerators that meet the specifications of the Lethbridge County Fire Bylaw #22-002 are allowed. Residents can visit the Lethbridge County website or call the County office at 403-328-5525 to determine if their fire meets the criteria. Fires that are contained in cooking or heating appliances fueled by fluids or gasses (gas or propane fueled fire rings, BBQs, stoves, and heaters) are allowed.
