Average rental rates in Lethbridge rise in September

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The average rent in Canada surpassed the $2,000 per month mark in September, but Lethbridge managed to stay under that figure.

That’s according to the latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca, and Bullpen Research and Consulting. The report includes 35 different communities across Canada.

Lethbridge came in 31st on the list for average monthly rent last month for a one-bedroom unit at $1,123 a month. The city came in at 33rd for the average rent of two-bedroom units, at $1,282.

Year over year, the average monthly rent in September for a one-bedroom in Lethbridge was up 14.1%, and up 13.1% for a two-bedroom.

The most expensive city for renters in Alberta last month was Calgary last month. The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom in Calgary was $1,629, while a two-bedroom rented for $1,895 on average.

  • Calgary (24 out of 35):
    • One-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,629
      • Up 2.0% month over month, up 29% year over year
    • Two-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,895
      • Up 0.3% month over month, up 21.9% year over year
  • Lethbridge (31 out of 35)
    • One-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,123
      • Up 1.6% month over month, up 14.1% year over year
    • Two-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,282
      • Up 3.0% month over month, up 13.1% year over year
  • Edmonton (32 out of 35)
    • One-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,073
      • Up 0.2% month over month, up 5.1% year over year
    • Two-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,362
      • Up 0.5% month over month, up 9.4% year over year
  • Fort McMurray (33 out of 35)
    • One-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,060
      • Up 0.6% month over month, down 0.3% year over year
    • Two-bedroom unit monthly average: $1,337
      • Down 0.1% month over month, up 5.6% year over year
