LETHBRIDGE – A new record has been set at the University of Lethbridge.

The number of students enrolled is 8,724, an increase of 96, or 1.1 per cent over fall 2016. In a news release, Kathleen Massey, associate vice president (students), said the increase was what they had hoped for.

The total represents both the Lethbridge and Calgary campuses. The number of undergraduates increased by just under one per cent, while graduate students have increased 3.7 per cent, to nearly 600.

Nearly 500 First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students, an increase of 2.5 per cent, are enrolled for fall. There are increases in high school, transfer students, and Open Studies as well.

Massey said the numbers reflect progress toward the university’s goals for the year 2020.
