Lethbridge crews work through the weekend to clear snowdrifts WATCH: City crews at snow dump sites

LETHBRIDGE – City plows, graders, dump trucks and front loaders have been working around the clock over the last several days, after Mother Nature once again made travel difficult, if not impossible across parts of Lethbridge late last week.

Blowing snow advisories were sent out by Environment Canada, and along the southern, western, and northern edges of the city, several roads were closed off to traffic or travel was not recommended.

As of Monday morning (Feb. 26), 30 St. West between Whoop-Up Drive and Aquitania Boulevard West is now open, and access roads to Popson and Pavan Parks have also reopened, after they became impassable.

Crews are continuing to respond to service requests received over the weekend and are now removing snow along Priority 3 routes.

Snow cleared from city streets is taken to one of two dump sites in the city; at the north end of University Drive, or along 43 St. South, just east of the Exhibition Grounds.

Those sites meet provincial and federal environmental regulations and are specially designed not only to handle massive amounts of snow, but to ensure the runoff only goes into adjacent run off ponds.
