Canada’s Erin Mielzynski seventh at World Cup alpine skiing event
OFTERSCHWANG, Germany — Erin Mielzynski of Collingwood, Ont., skied to her third World Cup top-ten finish of the season on Saturday at the event in Ofterschwang, Germany.
Mielzynski was seventh, tying her season-best result. After the first run, the 27-year old sat in eighth but put down a great second run, lighting up the run with green intervals and crossing the line in a time of one minute 50.72 seconds, moving up one spot.
In 2012, Mielzynski won on this track, making her the last Canadian woman to win a slalom race. Today, she was just 1.62 seconds off the first-place time. Warm conditions and rain deteriorated the track, causing bigger and bigger ruts for each racer.
“I’m really happy with another top ten this year,” said Mielzynski. “It ties my best for the season. I’ve been skiing quite solidly recently and I felt confident leading into the race. It was an interesting race because conditions were so warm but they did a great job of preparing the track.”
