Important changes coming to natural gas meter reading

Jun 30, 2018 | 10:13 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Beginning on Sunday, July 1, ATCO Gas will transition from vehicle to aerial meter reading.

The transition to aerial meter reading involves taking their trucks off the road and utilizing technology to read your meter. More details about aerial meter reading can be found here

This change will affect all customers served by ATCO Gas, including almost 600,000 Direct Energy Regulated Services and Direct Energy natural gas customers, and will impact their meter reading date and bill payment due date.

As the timing changes between the current and new meter read dates, monthly bills may vary from what customers usually expect.

A release from ATCO Gas states this is due to both shorter and longer billing periods during the transition but that by October all customers will have completed the transition.

Direct Energy has created a searchable table so that customers, using their account number, can determine their new bill payment due date.

The data is based on current information provided by ATCO Gas prior to the start of aerial meter reading, and the Late Payment Penalty Date is approximately 17 calendar days after the statement date.
