Solar-powered crosswalk to be installed beside Galbraith Elementary School

LETHBRIDGE – Construction on the city’s first solar-powered pedestrian crosswalk is scheduled to begin right after the long weekend.
The crosswalk will be located beside Galbraith Elementary School, along 9 Ave. N., and 18 St. N.
Traffic will be detoured beginning July 3, around the area and construction is expected to wrap up in three weeks weather permitting, at which time all lanes will re-open to motorists.
The curb at the intersection will also be extended out onto 9 Ave. N, called a ‘blub-out,’ to reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians. According to the city, it also allows for better sight lines for both pedestrians and approaching vehicles.
